Gifted is a film you’ve probably seen before in one iteration or another; the misunderstood genius trying to find their place in the world, an idealistic character clashing against the world, family members who play villains in one form or another even though they are trying to help in their own selfish way. This film is eloquent, it handles heavy topics such as suicide and family interaction in a way that serves the story and allows us to invest in the characters. It has a perfect cast, with McKenna Grace the stand out, impressive for a child actor. The score crowns a well rounded and emotional film with a heart tugging soundtrack to elevate scenes. The result is a poignant look at family.
